The service

  1. How much does the service cost?
The service is free. However, you should remember that you have to pay your provider a fee for the bandwidth used by the application. We advise you to check their offers and get a flat rate.

  2. Do I need the internet to use the service?
Yes, you must be able to access the internet from your mobile phone to connect to our servers and access your emails.

  3. How much bandwidth is used?
The communication with the server is designed to consume as little bandwidth as possible by sending the information compressed. However, it depends on how you use the service. If you view many emails containing images or documents, then you will need more bandwidth to download them. If you use the application in “Push-email” mode, you will instantly and automatically receive your emails from your account, because the application is constantly connected to the server. The connection is optimized to reduce network traffic as much as possible. There is an option in the application which shows the amount of data traffic for the current session. In any case, it is advisable to check the prices offered by your internet service provider and see if it is advantageous for you to get an internet flat rate.

  4. I would like you to add a <new feature>
All suggestions are welcome, even destructive criticism. You can enter your suggestions here. We promise we will take your opinion on board.

  5. If the service is free, how do you make money?
In the future we will be putting advertisements in the application and offering paid premium services. We will offer premium accounts for companies too.

  6. Is your service safe?
The communication between mobile phone and server is encrypted with ssl. Emails are stored in our data center, which can only be accessed by us.

  7. Do you intend to use my data for…?
Data you provide us with will be used exclusively to offer you our service. We will not sell or transfer your data to third parties. If we start sending you contextual advertisements in the future, we will analyze email content to send you the appropriate advertisements.

  8. Which are the minimum requirements to use Mobiquus?
The minimum requirements are the following:
    • A mobile phone that can support Midp 2.0
    • Access to the internet through the mobile phone. Please take into account that your operator might charge you for the data transfer, so checking out their tariffs in advance is recommended. Mobiquus tries to keep the data transfer as low as possible, but it is in any case advisable to get a flat rate.
    • An email account that supports access through POP3/Imap or that allows email redirecting. Most email providers allow at least one of these operations.
    • A mobile phone containing the root certificates needed to validate the SSL Certificate (to encrypt the communication with the server). To install the signed version of Mobiquus, the mobile phone must have the VeriSign Root Certificate Class 3 (see Faq)

The service

  1. Which mobile phones are supported?
Any mobile phone that can support Java MIDP 2.0 with a minimum resolution of 128x160. However, not every mobile phone can use all the functions we offer. The application might not even work at all in very old devices.

  2. Do you support touch screen phones?
At this time we do not support touch screen phones, but we are working to support them in future versions.

  3. How can I install Mobiquus on my mobile phone?
To install Mobiquus on your phone, you need to register on our website first. It is free of charge, and it is needed to adapt the contents of your emails to your phone’s requirements. After finishing the registration process, you have three choices:
    • Send us an SMS. After entering your phone number, we will send you an SMS with a direct link to download the application.
    • Go to http://d.mobiquus.com with your phone’s browser, log in with your User and Password and download the application.
    • You can download the application to your PC and transfer it later to your phone through Bluetooth/wire.

  4. I came across a bug in the application, what should I do?
Our service is still in Beta phase, and it hasn’t been widely tested yet. There are many types of mobile phones and networks to which we don’t have access, so it’s still hard for us to test our product with them. So, if you come across a bug, first of all sorry!, and secondly, please enter the bug into the following page, with as much information as possible and we will try our best to fix the problem as quickly as we can. Thank you!

  5. How do I set up the data connection?
Manufacturers and operators usually offer a free service on their website by means of which you can automatically set up data connection on your mobile phone.
    Nokia: http://www.nokia.co.uk/get-support-and-software/learn-how/get-settings
    Motorola: https://motorolasetup.tarsin.com/home.htm?locale=en
    Samsung: http://uk.samsungmobile.com/supports/configurephone/wapSetting.do
    SonyEricsson: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/detailed/phonesetupwap/?lc=en
    LG: http://uk.lgmobile.com/web/web.support.wapGuideGprsRF.laf

  6. After installing Mobiquus, where can I find it in the phone?
The location of the application in the phone depends on the phone manufacturer and the installation process. Normally it is located in the file manager, under Applications, Java Applications or even Java Games. Notice that most phone models create a direct access to the application in the main menu. For more information, consult your manufacturer’s manual or website.

  7. Should I give you my password?
We will use your password exclusively to access your email account. The password will be entered only from the application on your mobile phone, and it only will be in use on the server while the application is running. The password will never be stored persistently in our machines. Once you exit the application, the password will stop being used. If you decide to select the option “Remember me” in your mobile phone, the password will be stored encrypted in the mobile phone. As an alternative you can redirect your emails to our servers. This way you will never have to give us your password.

  8. What is Push Mail?
“Push mail” enables your mobile phone to get your emails as soon as they reach our servers. In order to do this, Mobiquus needs to maintain a permanent connection with the server, requiring a minimum amount of data traffic. Both battery life and email delay are optimized to achieve this. Even so, depending on mobile model and/or network operator, this option might not always work properly, leading to excessive battery drain or even to email retrieval failure.

  9. What does the option “Use Polling” mean?
When this option is activated, Mobiquus doesn’t maintain a permanent connection, but it queries the server periodically about the existence of new emails. This way, new emails will not arrive at your mobile phone as quickly as they reach our servers. The new retrieval frequency depends on the new configuration, and in exchange, if you set up a fairly long frequency (at least every 10 minutes), battery life will last longer.

  10. How can I improve the battery life?
The option "Push" enables your mobile phone to get your emails as soon as they reach our servers but, depending on your network operator settings, Mobiquus might need to refresh the Push connection frequently. This might compromise the battery life considerably, so we recommend using the option Polling with a fairly long time setting (not shorter than 10 minutes). The higher this figure, the longer the battery life, but it will take longer for new emails to reach your mobile phone.
Mobiquus lets you decide at what time of day new emails should arrive. For example, if you don’t want Mobiquus to notify you about new mail on your mobile phone during the night, you can set up a retrieval interval excluding night hours. This way, Mobiquus will remain inactive at night, saving battery time. .

  11. Is it safe to install Mobiquus on my mobile phone?
The Mobiquus application which you install on your mobile phone has been signed by VeriSign with a VeriSign Class 3 certificate. VeriSign certifies that the installed application has been genuinely provided by Mobiquus, and therefore all warranties specified in the user license are applicable. Most mobile phones display some kind of information menu linked to the application where you can check the names of the application (Mobiquus) and provider (Brane Labs, SLL), and also that the domain belongs to a “Trusted Third Party”.

  12. Does Mobiquus transfer my email data through the internet in a safe way?
The application Mobiquus guarantees the confidentiality of all data transferred via SSL (Secure Socket Layer).

  13. After installing or using Mobiquus, it says that the certificateis expired/I just cannot install Mobiquus. Why?
When faced with this problem, the first step is checking that the date and time are correctly set. If the problem persists, it is surely related to the certificate. Mobiquus provides the application signed with a VeriSign certificate (See Faq), which ensures the authenticity of the program. The VeriSign Root Certificate Class 3 is a universally accepted certificate, present in most phone models in the market. Nevertheless, there are operators and manufacturers which provide phones without this kind of certificate. If you find any problems when installing the signed version of the application, try installing the unsigned version of Mobiquus, which you can download, using your phone’s browser, from http://d.mobiquus.com, or rather download it to the PC from the Download Area in the User’s Area on our website.

  14. When I’m using Mobiquus I’m constantly asked to give my permission to access the internet.
Mobiquus needs to connect periodically to our servers to check the existence of new mail. You need to set up your mobile phone to avoid the display of dialog boxes asking for permission to connect the mobile phone to the internet. Most mobile phones offer a dialog box linked to the application, by means of which you can set up the mobile phone to ask for permission just once, or never.

  15. When I’m using Mobiquus in my SonyEricsson, I’m constantly asked to give my permission to access the internet.
To set your SonyEricsson up correctly phone you need to go to Organizer > Applications, and then to Mobiquus. After that, select the option “Permissions” in the “Options” menu. Then select “Internet access”. The right options within this menu are “Ask once” and “Never ask”

  16. I have a Motorola phone, and I am constantly asked for permission to access the internet. What should I do?
To avoid this you have to choose a fixed access point for Mobiquus. In order to do this, click on Mobiquus (in most cases Applications > Mobiquus or wherever you installed the application), and then select Options > Management > Settings > Data connection and choose the access point you normally use.

  17. My mobile phone is a Nokia and I’m constantly asked to give my permission to access the internet or asked for the access point. What should I do to avoid this?
If your Nokia repeatedly asks for permission to access the internet or for an access point, you can set it up manually to stop asking. Open the Application Manager, look up the Mobiquus application on the list. After accessing the settings you will see a configurable parameter list. The "Access Point" parameter allows you to choose a default access point to connect to the internet. Choose the access point you normally use to access the internet. You should set up the "Network access" parameter to "Ask first time" or "Never Ask".

Where you can find the Application Manager?

    5320 XpressMusic, 6210 Navigator, 6650, N78, N79, N85, N96 Menu -> Applications -> App. mgr. -> Installed apps. Look up Mobiquus -> Options -> Settings
    E51, E63, E66, E71, E90 Menu -> Applications -> App. mgr. -> Installed apps. Look up Mobiquus -> Options -> Open
    N76, N82, N81 8Gb, N81, N95 Menu -> Applications -> App. mgr. Look up Mobiquus -> Options -> Open
    5700 XpressMusic, 6110 Navigator, 6120 classic, 6121 classic, 6124 classic, 6290, 6220 classic Menu -> Settings -> Data mgr -> App. Manager -> Installed apps. Look up Mobiquus -> Options -> Settings
    N70, N73, N80, 5500 Sport, E61 Menu -> Tools -> App. mgr. Look up Mobiquus -> Options -> Suite settings

Note: in the Nokia N70, N73, N80, Nokia 5500 Sport, E61, you can only configurate the "Network access" parameter, the "Access Point" is not available

  18. What is the difference between minimizing and exiting the application?
The option "exit" terminates the application completely, and you will not receive any more notifications about new emails. The option "minimize" leaves the application working in the background while you use the other functions on the phone. When new mail arrives, Mobiquus comes up to the foreground to inform you about it. Please remember that not all mobile phones allow applications working in the background, specially the oldest or simplest. Most mobile phones show an icon on the bar on the top of the screen when an application is running in the background.

  19. I have selected the option Minimize. How can I go back to the application?
The easiest way is doing the same action you do to start the program (See Faq). Mobiquus will come up in the same state that it was when it was minimized. Notice that many Sony-Ericsson phones have a key to open a menu where you can choose among all the applications running in the background.

  20. I have a Motorola. How can I minimize the application?
In the Motorola phones supported by Mobiquus (ver see supported phones), the Minimize option can be performed by pressing the Hang Up key and choosing Go to Main Screen.

Configuration

  1. How much server space is available for me to use?
Initially, in free service accounts there are 100MB available in each account.

  2. What are the requirements my email provider should comply with?
In order for us to access your email account we need your email provider to support POP/IMAP and SMTP technologies. These technologies are currently supported by every major email provider: Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo! (Warning: the service POP/IMAP, SMTP available on yahoo.com is not free).
Alternatively, if your provider doesn’t offer these services, you can redirect your emails to our server (make sure that the emails are also saved in your inbox).

  3. I didn’t get the confirmation email, what should I do?
Check your Spam folder. Sometimes the confirmation email is moved there by mistake. If it’s not there, then register again and make sure you type your email address correctly.

  4. When I registered, I chose the access option via POP3/IMAP. What is my username and password in Mobiquus?
With this option you do not need to remember any new username or password. Both your username and password are the same as in your email account.

  5. When I registered, I chose the option Redirect. What is my username and password in Mobiquus?
By registering with this option, Mobiquus creates a new email account to which you can redirect your everyday email. You can use either your old or new email address as the Mobiquus username. The password is the one you chose when you registered. If you have forgotten it, you can go to http://www.mobiquus.com/main/forget_password to retrieve it.

  6. How do I configure POP / IMAP on my email provider?
If you are registered as a POP/IMAP user, we need to access to your email via POP or IMAP. To do this you need to enable the POP or IMAP protocol on your email provider and configure the POP or IMAP servers in your Mobiquus account. If you do not enable POP or IMAP, you can not authenticate in the mobile application or in the Mobiquus web or receive your email in the mobile.

  7. How do I configure my email provider to forward my email to Mobiquus?
It depends on the configuration of your email provider, but in general, in the configuration of your mail you will have an option of forwarding mail. In this option you can enter the email that you created in Mobiquus, so the emails that you receive will be forwarded to Mobiquus and we will send it to your mobile. Remember to keep a copy of the forwarded messages in your inbox, so you can access them with your webmail.

  8. My email provider is Gmail and I want Mobiquus to access my emails through IMAP. How should I set it up?
To enable Mobiquus to get your emails from Gmail via IMAP, you need to set up this option in your Gmail account first. In order to do this, click on “Settings” at the top right of the page. Then go to the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab and select the option “Enable IMAP” :

  9. My email provider is Gmail and I want to forward my emails to Mobiquus. How should I set it up?
To enable Gmail to forward your emails to Mobiquus, you need to set up this option in the Gmail settings section. In order to do this, click on “Settings” at the top right of the screen. Then go to the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab and select the option “Forward a copy of incoming mail to”. Fill the field with the email address given to you by Mobiquus.

  10. I use a Gmail account and some of my emails don’t get through to Mobiquus, even though I can see them on the Gmail website. Why does this happen?
Currently Mobiquus can only retrieve emails from the Gmail inbox. If an email is stored by the Gmail service before it can get through to Mobiquus, the email gets inaccessible for Mobiquus.

  11. I use a Gmail account, I have configured IMAP but I can't login in Mobiquus.
Sometimes Gmail lock the account after some login failures. Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha to unlock it.

  12. My email provider is Yahoo and I want Mobiquus to access my emails through POP. How should I set it up?
To enable Mobiquus to get your emails from your Yahoo account (if it is Yahoo.com, see faq yahoo) via POP, you need to select this option in your account. In order to do this, click on “Options”, and then “Mail Options” at the top right of your Yahoo! Mail home page. After that, click on “POP & Forwarding” and enable the option “POP & Web access.”

  13. My email provider is Yahoo and I want to forward my emails to Mobiquus. How should I set it up?

Warning: Yahoo deletes all incoming mail if redirection is enabled, so you won't be able to access it through yahoo webmail

To enable Mobiquus to get your emails from your Yahoo account (if it is Yahoo.com, see faq yahoo) via POP, you need to select this option in your account. In order to do this, click on “Options”, and then “Mail Options” at the top right of your Yahoo! Mail home page. After that, click on “POP & Forwarding”, enable the option “Forwarding” and then fill the field with the email address given to you by Mobiquus.

  14. I have a Yahoo email account from yahoo.com. Can I use Mobiquus with it?
If your email account is one of the type @yahoo.com, unfortunately Yahoo does not currently provide any other way to access your account without using their webpage. To use Mobiquus with your yahoo.com account you need to register for a Yahoo! Mail Plus Mail Plus account (which the user pays for), or otherwise you should try another email provider that supports POP, IMAP protocols or email forwarding.

  15. I would like my emails to reach my phone as quickly as possible. What should I do?
If you want to minimize the time between the moment of getting an email in your account and the moment when you receive it on your phone, the first step is registering with a Redirect Account. This way, your emails will reach our servers almost as soon as they arrive to your account. The second step is setting up Mobiquus with the Push option (see Faq). If you find problems with the Push option (because of the phone model or the operator), you can try setting up the Polling option (see Faq) with a interval as short as possible (1 minute is the shortest possible time). Notice that a very short interval might considerably reduce the battery time (see Faq).
